Open Mic Experience and Showcase

In typical poetess form, Mictastic was conceived through desperation and desire. This was officially in 2023, but the concept itself had been marinating along my innermost mind some years before then. Having been a part of the NYC Open Mic scene for 10+ years, the dire need I felt to design events differently - both within and behalf of our city- became a constant haunt. I’d spend Saturday nights sitting in someone else's space, thinking of the ways in which I’d include all & every in a more intimate way; one in which each individual was forced to be seen. Heard. Safe. No matter the previous experience. Trust, I am the first to say that this was simultaneously a self-concerned endeavor: I remain painfully aware of the high I run-up each time I host a show. Proudly addicted to the rush that is keeping energy up, vocalizing support through detailed commentary, mixing the bag between spitting hot fire right quick & rhyming like a clown while requesting fingersnaps for the sake of the peoples. There is simply no wine in the world that matches the moment of a stranger speaking to your soul.Our Mictastic open mic is a monthly, strictly open mic, mic: a no features, no slam, all fun, all arts, safety first showcase that consists of trivia throughout; prizes in the form of drinks and notebooks, poetry compilations and event tix and novels, bookmarks and more. At Mictastic, we refuse downtime during that post workday wordplay stretch we all savor for the sake of spoken need. Mictastic keeps it movin & groovin, while also enforcing networking challenge participation guaranteed to make you some friends before end of evening. Come see us at our next open mic in June.
