THE LONG WAY HOME

A SPOKEN WORD JOURNEY

WITH LEAH V & FRIENDS

The Long Way Home is a one-woman spoken word and theatrical poetry show by Leah V, co-produced by BX Writers. Inspired by her late father’s handwritten poems, the show blends original spoken word, live music, and multimedia storytelling into a journey through grief, love, creativity, and home. Structured like a train ride through the city and the self, each section offers a moment of reflection that feels personal, accessible, and deeply human.

MORE ABOUT THE RIDE -

The Long Way Home

The Long Way Home is a one-woman spoken word and theatrical poetry show written and performed by Leah V, co-produced by BX Writers.

At its heart, the show is about memory, family, and the journey of becoming who we are. Drawing from her late father’s handwritten poems and journals, Leah V weaves archival writing together with her own original work to create a deeply personal yet widely relatable experience.

The show unfolds like a journey through the city and the self. Each stop reflects a different moment of life, moving through grief, love, creativity, sensuality, heartbreak, and home. The language is poetic but grounded, inviting audiences to listen closely without feeling excluded.

Blending spoken word, storytelling, live music, and multimedia elements, The Long Way Home brings poetry into a theatrical space that feels intimate, present, and alive.

THE FIRST RUN

The initial run of The Long Way Home premiered to a sold-out audience and an enthusiastic response that quickly called for an encore.

Audiences connected to the clarity of the storytelling, the emotional honesty of the work, and the strength of the performance. The show’s success came from its balance of vulnerability and control, offering a meaningful experience without asking the audience to do extra work to understand it.

This encore run builds on that foundation, offering a richer and more expansive version of the journey.

THE PERFORMANCE

Leah V performs ten original poems entirely from memory, allowing for full presence and direct connection with the audience. Five poems written by her late father are woven throughout the show, offering moments of reflection and continuity.

Memorization allows the performance to feel natural and responsive, creating space for eye contact, breath, and shared attention. The result is a performance that feels lived in rather than rehearsed.

Leah V also leads the production itself, shaping the structure, pacing, and flow of the show so that every element serves the story.

AN EVOLVING EXPERIENCE

The Long Way Home is designed to grow.

The encore run introduces new musical moments, expanded multimedia elements, and fresh surprises, while preserving the heart of the original performance. No two versions of the show are exactly the same.

The journey continues to evolve, shaped by time, community, and collaboration.
